Ride for The Boss
Who is The Boss?
Many horsemen decide to use their talents to make a living in order to be their own boss. But that isn't the reality. A horseman has as many bosses as they do clients, horses, and suppliers. The client tells you what they want, they are your boss in they tell you what to do. A horse tells you what they are capable of, they are your boss in they tell you what you cannot do. A supplier tells you what you owe, they are your boss in they tell you how much you make. Sometimes it is much easier to work for someone else.
We all in life have at least one boss that we listen to. We either choose to live for the boss of this world which tells us to gratify the desires of the flesh and listen to our thoughts. (Ephesians 2:3) Or we choose to live for The Boss, the creator of all things who has promised to physically return to this earth and take what is due to Him. (Matthew 21:33-41) This is The God of the universe. He is also known as the Lord Jesus Christ.
Joshua, the leader of God's people, exclaimed to them in Joshua 24, "Fear the Lord, serve Him sincerely and truthfully. Put away the gods of this earth that your ancestors served before. Serve the Lord! If it does not seem good for you to serve the Lord, then choose this day who you will serve. Choose whether you will serve fame, fortune, popularity, things of this earth, or anything of this nature. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” (Verse 14-15 paraphrased)
Who do you serve?
You know you serve The God, the creator of the universe and all that is in it, by doing all things to bring Him glory and honor. We saw the great heroes of faith do this all throughout the scriptures. We are to follow their example and learn from their mistakes. We are to diligently read the scriptures and do what they say. This is how we know we ride for The Boss.
You know you serve fame if all you do is to bring yourself recognition and glory. If everything you think about doing you balance against how it will make you look. You know you serve fortune if everything you do is to make you more money and even when you have made more money you must have more. You also know this is your boss when you use the money for yourself and not for the benefit of those around you. You know you serve popularity when everything you do is to make yourself liked by those around you. You serve yourself rather than your neighbor. You know you serve the things of this earth when you prize them more than anything else. If you are always working to keep up appearances or try to “keep up with the Jones’.” You know you serve anything of this earth when you put all your effort into it than anything else.
How do you ride for The Boss?
Some say they never hear God speak to them. Huh…well that’s strange because those of us in the United States of America on average have 2.5 Bibles in each of our homes. These are God’s word to us on how to live every day to bring Him glory.
The greatest command is to first love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength and we are to love others as ourselves. (Matthew 22:36-39) By this we are then called to live our lives with explainable joy that comes from knowing we are children of God. We are to have a peace that surpasses all understanding knowing that God is sovereign and works all things for good. We are to be patient with one another, bearing one another’s burdens and willing to put up with their shortcomings. Everything we do is to be seasoned with kindness, gentleness, and goodness. None of this is nice because we are not called to be nice, but we are called to be kind, gentle and good for He is good. We are to be faithful in all our dealings, even if we get the short end of the stick, for Lord knows Jesus sure did, but he did it for our benefit. Finally we are to live a life that is self-controlled, meaning that nothing masters us; nothing holds us captive because Jesus is sufficient. (Galatians 5:22-23)
This is how we ride for the Boss. No matter what we do we do them all as described above. If you lack any of these things then ask God the good Father who gives lavishly to all his children. (James 1:5, Matthew 7:7-11) None of these things are possible apart from the Holy Spirit, which God gives us freely His Holy Spirit to dwell within us when we surrender to His will and His ways to bring Him glory in all we do. This is our seal, our mark that we have set apart in our heart and life, Jesus Christ as Lord.
If you confess your sins; recognize your sinful state in not living for Him. Repent; turn away from your wicked ways and desire to live according to the way of life. He is faithful and just and will forgive you of your sins and wipe you clean of all your wickedness. (1 John 1:9)
So when you throw your saddle over your horse today, decide that you are going to ride for The Boss. Do this each and every day. This is the way that leads to righteousness and eternal life through Jesus Christ.
Blessings,
Greta
