I was listening to a preacher on the radio, like I often do; but I don't remember who, but I do remember something he said. He was talking about how we must become servants of God, and when we become servants of God, we do as He does. Jesus gave us the example of how to serve God. Several times He said He came to do His Father's will, nothing more and nothing less. (John 5:19)
The #CornerstoneVerseOfTheDay is from a passage where James and John ask Jesus to make them the highest-ranking men among those in His following. That was a pretty bold request. The verse(s) of the day are Jesus' response to them. He told them that for them to be great, they must first be the least, the servant, or even lower, a slave. He continued to tell them that He Himself did not come to be served, but to serve. We must do likewise.
This is a notion that is not well thought of in our society. That we must be servants. We would all rather be served than to serve; but this is what the Lord calls us to, to be His servant, and in turn to serve others as His servant.
We do this for our horse. We serve them. We feed them daily, clean up after them, care for them, and so on. Why is it so hard for us to take this same approach with others? That is what the Lord calls us to do. We were created to work on this earth. Granted now our work is harder since the fall of man in Genesis 3, but we were still created with the purpose to serve and take care of the earth (Genesis 2).
A horse cannot become useful until it has first become submissive to our leadership. Just as we are not much use to the Lord until we humble ourselves and surrender ourselves to His lordship. Be more like the horse.
What is your mission? What is it the Lord is calling you to do? How are you to serve Him by serving others? As we have talked previously about go and begin obeying the Lord, this is another area where you can start living in obedience.
