Are you longing for peace? Peace in your soul? Maybe things around you seem fine, but there is an unrest inside of you. You go through your day and things really don't seem too bad, but then something just trips your trigger and you can't let it go. How you do you address it? The answer is simple, with our Lord, Jesus Christ.
At one time I was that person. That person that would go off about the smallest things. I was the one that would be seemingly fine, but then get upset over something that was really nothing. A horse would do some insignificant thing and I would fly off that handle. It affected my husband and then even affected my clients. It wasn't until I was in a Beth Moore Bible study with some other ladies at my church that I found the answer. It was a study on the Fruit of the Spirit in Galatians 5:22-23. She was talking about peace and then all the sudden she was talking right to me.
She was talking about how we get peace; peace at all cost is not true peace. When we just let things go to "keep the peace" they become bigger things. Then she said, maybe you have an anger within you that you don't even know what you are angry about. Um, hello, that was me! Her words of wisdom were you have to give it over to the Lord. Let Him take it and fill you with His peace which is His Spirit.
This theme is all over the scriptures. It is found in our #CornerstoneVerseOfTheDay in Isaiah, which is found in the Old Testament. It is found as one of the qualities of the Fruit of the Spirit. Paul tells us again in Philippians how to get that peace:
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7
To keep peace, true peace in our souls, we must trust the Lord, we must keep our thoughts on Him continually. We must also give all our fear, worries, and anxieties to Him, and in turn He will give us peace, a peace that surpasses all understanding. That is a peace worth striving for. There is nothing on this earth that we can control, except how we respond to the events around us. When we trust in the Lord, in His will and His plan, the rest doesn't really matter. When it all seems to be falling apart, those who trust in the Lord shine bright because their response to the chaos is so much different.
Just as the horse finds peace when we become the leader they need, we will also find peace, perfect peace, peace that surpasses all understanding, when we accept the Lord as our leader and trust Him. That is what the world desires; find it for yourself and then show the world how to find it.
