The Lord's Blessing
Commit to the Lord whatever you do and your plans will succeed. Sounds simple enough, right? Committing your plans to the Lord doesn't mean that He will automatically bless them and make them succeed. No, we must make sure that our plans align with His will, His general will for us as well as His specific will for our lives.
The Bible is full of God's general will for our lives. Love the Lord your God, and love others (Matthew 22:37-39), on this all of the law and prophets hang. But the Lord also has a specific will for our lives. Imagine if Moses, when the Lord told him to go, tell Pharaoh to 'let my people go', and Moses said, ok, but I want to write a letter instead, or shepherding these sheep is much more profitable I will do this instead. How do you think God would respond? In fact, we do know how God responded in Exodus chapter 3.
Same thing with Jonah. God told him to go to Nineveh and he decided to go to Tarshish instead. If you don't know how that ended then read the book of Jonah to find out. You see, we can't just go our own way and expect the Lord to bless us because we say, "this is for you God!" What if your horse did that? What if you asked your horse to take the hard trail because you knew it led to some amazing views, but your horse refused and went another way that was easier for them and you just saw what you could have seen in your own backyard? You would not be happy with your horse, would you? You would be disappointed in them and a good horseman would make the horse's way hard for them and the hard way easy for them. The Lord does the same for us.
In order for the Lord to bless our efforts and our plans, we must first submit to Him, follow His will, both general and specific, and then go our way. Sometimes the Lord gives us specific instructions to follow, and other times He gives us a general plan and lets us figure out the details. This is where the Lord's blessing comes, when we are following His will and working towards His will, He will bless our efforts and give us wisdom to carry them out.
