The Lord's Healing
The other day I heard a comment by a preacher on the radio; "God allows us to be broken in order that He may heal us." For the average man that sounds like bad medicine. Why would a loving God let us get hurt? I can promise you that it is good medicine, but it is a hard pill to swallow.
The reason we get hurt goes back to Genesis 3, and the curses given to both men and women. For women, there will be sorrow and difficulty becoming pregnant, she would have pain during childbirth, and her desire would be for her husband, but he will rule over her. For the man by the sweat of his brow he will work for his food, the earth will readily produce thorns and briers, but he will have to work to grow food. We are still feeling the effects of this curse today.
Many feel that the way the world is today is unjust. We have to remember two things: 1) we are not living according to God's original design; we chose to disobey Him. If it wouldn't have been Adam and Eve, it would have been someone else. The Lord is just as grieved over how things are as we are, but He gave them fair warning and actually dealt with Adam and Eve with great mercy. 2) God is not the one to cause the hurt and pain, we are. God allows it for His great purpose. For if there was no darkness, we could not comprehend the light. If there was no cold, we would not appreciate the warmth, if there was no salt, we would not appreciate the sweet. If there was no evil, we could not appreciate our Good God. If we were not broken, He could not heal us. His healing is incomprehensible compared to our unbrokenness.
It is because of my brokenness that I love the Lord. It is because of my brokenness that I praise His name. It is because of my brokenness that I am excited to share the Lord with others and offer them the comfort that the Lord gave me. The worst brokenness we have is emotional, damage to our soul. There is also physical brokenness, but those who have been wounded deeply within would trade physical brokenness for their emotional brokenness. Sometimes physical brokenness brings a brokenness within. The Lord promises us healing of our hearts and souls on this earth, but not always physical healing. That will come, but only in the next life where we are made completely whole. (Revelations 21:4 & 22:3)
Do you know that all of creation groans along with us? Read a bit further in Romans 8:22. My not following the Lord's design causes creation to groan even more. When I was not as close to the Lord as I am now, my horsemanship suffered and so did my horses. With a greater understanding of the Lord and who He is, has made my horsemanship better and my horses better. The scriptures are full of how we are to treat our animals. (Proverbs 12:10, Deuteronomy 25:4 & 22:6) The Lord has great care for all of his creation, He clothes the flowers of the field with beauty and knows when a sparrow falls to the ground. (Matthew 6:26-29)
To keep the earth from groaning, grow closer to the Lord, learn His ways and follow them. Our great nation of the United States was founded on such beliefs and became great because of them. We still have that freedom today and so we are without excuse as to why we do not obey the Lord. Yes, this world is full of pain and sorrow, but the Lord has a remedy for that and it is found in His word. He longs to heal you; you just have to let Him. Go to prayer and begin that healing now:
Lord, I long for your healing. I ask that you will open my eyes to see your goodness. I ask that you open my ears to hear your words of truth. Fill my heart with understanding so I may turn to you and be healed. (Isaiah 6:9-10)
Lord, you promise to bring your healing Spirit upon me. You want to give me the good news to the poor in spirit, which I am. I want to know Your good news.
You want to heal my broken heart, in the same way that a surgeon heals a broken bone. I am willing to be healed.
To those who are captives of their past, you want to open the doors of their prison. I want released from my prison within myself.
You came to this earth to show us how blessed it is to live with you, and you made a way for us to commune with you through you Son, Jesus. You promise to avenge all those who have been wronged.
You long to comfort those who mourn. I want to be comforted by You!
You promise to console those in Your world. I want to feel your comfort!
You will take my mess of a life and make it beautiful.
You promise to take my mourning and replace it with a fragrant oil.
You want to take my despair and give me a garment of praise. Lord, I desire nothing more!
In allowing you to do all of this for me you will make me strong, like a mighty oak, planted by you. I no longer want to be blown around like a tumble weed. I want to praise you for your healing and lead others to the same healing.
May you be praised forevermore!
(Isaiah 61:1-3)
If you have prayed those prayers today, let us know. We would love to help you grow in your knowledge of our Lord, Jesus Christ, and in His ways.
