We are Set Apart
Just recently we had the Creation Truth Foundation up from Oklahoma. This ministry is extremely close to our hearts as they have given us the foundation that we needed to set our cornerstone for #CornerstoneFellowshipMinistry. If you ever get the chance to see them, GO!
One thing I learned over the weekend they were here was how God orchestrated everything to point out how holy we are; and since we are made in His image that, therefore, shows how holy He is. One way He showed this to us is in the very beginning, during creation.
When we read the account of creation in Genesis chapter 1, it is an overview of how God created everything in 6 days. On the 6th day, He created man in His own image. (Genesis 1:27) That in its self is an entire topic I will cover another day. Then, when we get over to Genesis 2, we are given a more detailed account of the creation of man and how he was placed in the garden and the role given to him. The Lord, Himself said, “It is not good for the man to be alone." He followed that up with, "I will make a helper suitable for him.” (Genesis 2:18) It is important to know that God said it is not good for man to be alone, that we need a helpmate.
The next part is important to catch. In the following verse, Genesis 2:19, we see the Lord bringing all of the animals to Adam to name them and to see all of them and to name them. The end of Genesis 2:20 we see the conclusion of this: "But for Adam no suitable helper was found." Did you catch that? I didn't, so don't feel bad. Here is why God 1) proclaimed it was not good for man to be alone; 2) then brought the animals to him to name; then 3) proclaimed there was no suitable helper for Adam among them. It was all to show Adam how special he was, he was holy, set apart from all the other creations of the earth and everything in them. He was the only one and he had no mate.
What made Adam special? The answer to that is found in Genesis 2:7. God formed man out of the dust of the earth like all the other animals, but He added one special touch to Adam. God literally breathed life into Adam, breathed His spirit into him to make him a living being; a truly living being, made in the image of God. No other creature on the earth was made like man.
Now that we have that dramatic lead up, what did God do for Adam since there was no suitable helper for him? God made a helper for him in Genesis 2:21-23. God created the woman out of Adam so she was a part of him, for him to love and care for as his own flesh, because she was of his flesh. And from this God instituted marriage in Genesis 2:24. That again, is another topic for another day.
Take on the day now knowing that you are a one-of-a-kind, made in God's image, and made holy from all other creation. That is why He calls to each and every one of us to have fellowship with Him. Because of our sin in Genesis 3 we have lost that connection with God and He longs to restore that in us. It is something only for us and no other creature on this earth.
